WE. Images for a New Art of Living Together

21 June to 1 November 2020
Barkenhoff und Große Kunstschau

In our self-centred society the notion of WE is becoming dangerously close to being lost. The crises of recent years and the brutalization of human relationships in our society shows only too clearly how urgently we need a new art of living together. As a follow-up to »de cultura. Art, Nature and (Agri)Culture«, the Worpswede Museums have therefore set a second thematic focus for the coming years to explore the question of what impulses art can provide of a new WE culture.

The complex paintings of Heinrich Vogeler at the Barkenhoff form a starting point and highlight of the exhibition. These works attest to Vogeler's search for a society based on solidarity and humanity and for his setting forth into a new artistic as well as ideologically pure world of life. In the Große Kunstschau exemplary works from very different artistic periods and genres promise stimulating and provocative encounters with paintings for a new art of living together.
