Leberecht Migge, Sonja Alhäuser and Michael Schmidt

Barkenhoff and Große Kunstschau
November 17, 2019 to March 8, 2020

This triad will be on hand when the Barkenhoff and the Große Kunstschau open their new theme and research cluster »de cultura«: art caught up in the interplay between landscape, agriculture and nature, between aesthetics, ecology and economy. The museums put a new focus on important aspects in the art and intellectual history of Worpswede.

»A garden for everyone!« was the slogan promulgated by the influential garden expert Leberecht Migge, who moved to Worpswede in 1920. The plans and drawings on show make it easy to imagine the diversity of Migge's works, ranging from self-sufficient gardens to park grounds. Michael Schmidt, one of the most important photographers in recent decades, presents a view of today's food industry in the 177 pictures of his series called »Food«. For Sonja Alhäuser there is nothing more special than a feast. Her sculptures and drawings, whether they are made of chocolate, butter or other delicacies, present sensuality in all of its forms – food, love, flora and fauna, life and death.
