»Actually, it´s a fairy tale ...«
25. Juni bis 5. November 2017

»Actually, it’s a fairy tale …« was what Rainer Maria Rilke wrote in his diary in 1900. »[…] I’m sitting in a completely white gabled house lost in the midst of gardens, among beautiful and dignified things […]«. At that time the Barkenhoff was the centre of Worpswede’s social life, visited by prominent intellectuals and artists. The heart of the group – referred to as the »Family« by Paula Modersohn-Becker – was made up of her along with Heinrich and Martha Vogeler, Otto Modersohn, Clara Westhoff and occasionally the poet Rainer Maria Rilke.

The exhibition at the Barkenhoff illustrates the artistic world of the Barkenhoff at the turn of the century and highlights the personal and artistic ties among the friends of Heinrich Vogeler.
